There are hundreds of breeds of dog all over the world and it is difficult to keep track of them especially for someone looking to raise a pet. However many of these breeds have been bred for domestic homes. All dogs belong to the canine family and therefore fall under the same tree as their ancestor the wolf. Early man was known to raise wolves as pets or guards. When looking at modern day dogs as pets there are several characteristics that need to be considered.
